After a 20cm dump the day before. I decided to pull a sicky and get up the mountain for my first powder day. Up to 20cm fell in some areas so it was a nice covering.

I was up the hill for the first lift at 9 and did the shadow run all morning. It was pretty niec being able to blast about on the fresh snow although there were still quite a few exposed rocks off the trails.

I then met up with Craig and we did a few runs and then headed over to the sugar lift, did a short hike and built a little take off ramp for ourselves to launch into fresh powder landing zone. I was the guinea pig for the first go and landed on my back covered in fresh powdery snow whcih was damn cold. Craig then had a go and tried an aerial but ended up landing on his face injuring himself. It later turned out he had slight concussion so that was the end of his day.
I then went to fix down my binding that had worked its way loose and adjusted my rear to 12 degrees which felt much better.

With such gorgeous conditions, I decided to do a big hike and hiked al the way up to the weather station near Double cone. It was a good half hour hike but it was well worth if for the views. I was 9000 ft above sea level and on a crystal clear day, I could see Mt. Cook and Abel Tasman, Mt. Aspiring and pretty much every other mountain as well as Queenstown and lake Wakatipu. The views were umbeleivable so it was a good thing I took my camera.

After all the hard work of hiking up, I was awarded with a nice powder run back down to the trails via the back bowl. On the way down I managed to hit some rocks which were only just covered so it was impossible to avoid them. The rocks again went through to the core of my board so thats in for repair. I fell on one occasion and landed on a rock that was just below the surface of the snow so bruised the base of my back.

After that eventful run, I headed over to sugar and did the terrain park for the last hour hittin the big kicker jump and the rails. My last run went smooth as, Did a real nice floaty jump with a grab and nailed every rail so I was stoked. A nice end to a good day out.
